A court in Russia’s Sverdlovsk region has awarded 2 million rubles in compensation to a family whose child died after being bitten by a tick. The tragic incident occurred in May 2024.
At the time of the incident, the boy from Sredneuralsk was vacationing with his mother and a group of friends in the Olenyi Ruchi nature reserve. During the walk, the tick bit the child on the head.
The parents took the child to the hospital the same day. Doctors removed the tick and provided appropriate medical care. However, about two weeks later, the boy developed a high fever and was hospitalized again. The child was later taken to the Sverdlovsk Regional Clinical Hospital, but he died in June.
In June 2025, the child’s parents filed a lawsuit in the Verkhnepishminsk City Court, demanding compensation for moral damage from the administration of the nature reserve.
The court, having studied the case materials and the conclusion of the forensic examination, partially satisfied the parents’ claim. A total of 2 million rubles was confiscated from the Olenyi Ruchi Nature Park, 1 million rubles from each parent. In addition, the park must pay another 3 thousand rubles in state duty.
At the same time, it is noted that the court’s decision has not yet entered into final force and can be appealed.
