Threads App Claims Tens of Millions of Signups Within Hours
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced on Thursday that Threads, the company’s new social app for close friends, had already amassed tens of millions of signups within hours of its launch.
Threads is designed to be a more intimate and personal experience than other social media platforms, with a focus on sharing photos, videos, and stories with a small group of close friends. The app also includes features like disappearing messages and read receipts, which are designed to give users more control over their privacy.
Zuckerberg said that he was “excited” by the early response to Threads, and that he believes the app has the potential to “reinvent” the way people connect with their closest friends.
“We’re just getting started, but we’re already seeing people use Threads to share their lives in a more intimate and meaningful way,” Zuckerberg said in a Facebook post. “We’re excited to see how people use Threads to stay connected with the people they care about most.”
The launch of Threads comes at a time when Meta is facing increasing competition from other social media platforms, such as Snapchat and TikTok. Threads is seen as one way for Meta to appeal to younger users who are increasingly turning to these other platforms.
It remains to be seen whether Threads will be able to achieve mainstream success. However, the early signup numbers are certainly encouraging for Meta.
