A little while ago, Hovhannes Sahakyan called me and said that law enforcement officers were arresting him at the airport.
Hovhannes is the “hero” of the video that has been actively circulating on the Internet for the past two days. The man who said that he would vote and leave Armenia soon, so that if “the situation gets complicated,” he would not be left with “complications.”
I have known Hovhannes for more than ten years. Yesterday, I told him on the air who he really is. I also said that the part that was broadcast was not Hovik’s thoughts, but irony.
The man who has stood by our Armed Forces for years, has done everything to have a strong Armenia, was simply offended that the ruling Communist Party and their supporters are showing such an attitude towards our compatriots living abroad.
It was precisely this insult that prompted him to give such a response to the journalist. Moreover, I should say that Hovhannes comes to Armenia almost every month, implements business projects here.
In other words, it’s not like he came specifically for the elections. It’s just that his irony (and in fact, his insult) was misunderstood. But even if a person avoided “complications” and wanted to return soon, what is his crime?
In short, a person’s freedom is currently limited. According to his words, the police are arresting him.
